Foundation Skills 2
(Popular Sophomores)

For: dogs coming out of Foundation Skills 1 once minimum skill level is achieved.

Our basic skills learned in Foundation Skills 1 are continued here with more challenges added such as added distractions and longer stay times. New skills introduced include Stand, Heel, Leave It, Place, and Sit while being petted. We now can begin to perfect all the basic exercises as well as practicing in more challenging situations. We add more difficult distractions to mimic events you are likely to encounter in real life---and how to train through them. Dogs are worked with both verbal cues and hand signals not only for practical applications, but the extra mental stimulation it provides; dogs love to use their brains!

When your dog is ready to move on to bigger and better things, he/she will be able to:
  • Sit and Down when asked once, and remain in position for 2 and 4 minutes, respectively (7 out of 8 times);
  • Give you their attention when asked once, even if a person is speaking to them (7 out of 8 times);
  • Stand in place for when asked for 30 seconds (7 out of 8 times);
  • Come when called from a distance of 30-40 feet, away from a person feeding or playing with them (7 out of 8 times);
  • Heel on leash past several distractions for a distance of 100 feet (7 out of 8 times);
  • Leave an interesting tidbit or object when asked once (7 out of 8 times);
  • Remain Sitting or Standing while a person approaches & pets them (7 out of 8 times);
  • Go to a designated Place and remain there in the presence of distractions for 5 minutes (7 out of 8 times);
  • Perform a NEW trick!
